Upgrade sqlserver express to sqlserver standard edition

Offline Database Access

$

I want to know, if we any approach where we can try to save application data offline when there is no internet connectivity, and once the network connection is up, sync all offline data by connecting to the main SQL Server instance.

One of the approach I thought was to use SQL Server Express, where we can save application related data at App Data instance and then sync it by connecting to the main SQL Server instance.

The other approaches I have read online is using Indexed DB, pouch DB, or Web Storage using HTML 5 offline technologies.

Any suggestions or relevant links or snippets for guiding me which best approach to use.

The application is made in using .Net technology.

Thanks In Advance!!!..

offering SQL Services to branch-office without VPN?

Hello,

one remote branch office in egypt needs access to the HQ sql database in europe. (located at the serverroom in france)

In france is a static public ip and a router firewall.

There is no ODBC Connection in use.

Egypt ERP Client needs to "see+find"  the SQL Server / Intance  via   local/internal IP oder DNS Name.

Do you know if there is a way to "offer"  it to the branch office?

Problem: branch office has no possibility to do IPSEC/SSL VPN due to a Vodafone GIGACUBE SIM-CARD Router in Egypt.

My only Idea is RDP to france with high security or Teamviewer.

IIS is not installed yet.

We are talking about a self programmed ERP SQL based Software.

thx for your opinion!

SQL Program Login

Hi There!

I have a Program Called 'Activant T-21', I have created a SQL Server for the program to talk to. I have setup the Database with the require tables, views and procedures. But I have a bit of trouble when it comes to logging in to the program. The programs reads an SQL Table, 'dbo.Users'.

I have entered the required information into that table and now when I login I get a message saying 'Password for user has become corrupt. See your system administrator.' This tells me that either there is an encryption that I don't know about or somethings not passing a checksum somewhere. Any Idea's??

how to import data into system versioned table in sql server?

Import data from Dev to QA for a system versioned table. But is failing. Table is already created in QA. But it is failing due to system versioned start date and End Date.

I used SSMS import wizard option.

It is showing an index out of bound error.

I wonder why Microsoft not excluded start date and End date for a system version table. But they have doe it for Edit 200 rows.

Are the switches for SQLCMD command case-sensitive?

$

I have SQL Server 2014 Management Studio installed on two computers, both of which run on Windows 10. The switches for SQLCMD command are case-sensitive on one computer, but it is not on the other one. If I type the command with lower case switches (like the below examples), it works on one but doesn't work on the other.
sqlcmd -s .\<servername>
sqlcmd -l
For the second computer, I have to type with upper case as shown below.
sqlcmd -S .\<servername>
sqlcmd -L

What is the issue/setting that decides this?

SQLExpress server does not exist or access denied - Windows could not start SQL server (error 14001) - side by side error

Hi

When trying to open my software programme I'm getting the following error message -

Error (Server=(local)\SQLEXPRESS, Database=iris), Error = [unspecified error], Description = [[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.]

I've tried going into services.msc as instructed by the software support team to restart/start the sqlexpress - but at that point I get the following message -

Windows could not start the SQL server (SQLEXPRESS) service on Local Computer.  Error 14001: The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect.  Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

When reviewing the application event log - the side by side error reads as follows -

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.ATL,processorArchitecture="amd64",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.4053" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

I've tried repairing Microsoft visual c ++, uninstalling and reinstalling it - as they suggested - but the programme still won't open.  They've now left me with the response "it's a windows issue and we can't help".

Everything seemed OK until an update was installed yesterday - I've tried restoring the PC to before the upgrade but still no joy.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks

Finding failed previous upgrade

Server has  Database running on SQL 2008R2, and another running on 2014. There is a 2012 SQL installed but not being used.

I need to move the one on 2008R2 to 2014. Running the 2014 installer and selecting the database to do the upgrade it fails due to a previous upgrade failing.

How do I find out WHAT upgrade failed?

I've called tech support for the software using the 2008R2 database and he was stumped. Doesn't know where to start to find out WHAT failed.

Old database created in old version now won't attach to 2017 express

Hello:
I have a Visual Studio website solution that I created in 2009 using VS 2008 and some old version of SQL.

I now have the new VS 2019 and have downloaded the SQL Server 2017 express and SQL Server management studio.

The problem is that my PC was reset since I developed those programs and although I had a back up of my solution, I'm having trouble using the new sql server.

When I open my project I receive this error message:

The Web project 'My Named project' requires SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB which is not installed on this
computer.

To upgrade the project database to use latest SQL Server Express LocalDB,
double click the databse file and follow the intructions. Note: After this upgrade,
the project databse can't be modified using earlier version of Visual Studio.

To continue using the same database for this project, install it from the
Microsoft Download Center.

When I click OK, I then receive other error messages and it doesn't appear to succeed and use the new version. Do I need to download SQL 2012 in order to update the database and then use it with 2017?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

2012/2014 Install and PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a

Installing SQL Server Express 2014 or 2012 keeps ending with:
Could not load file or assembly 'System.ServiceProcess, Version=2.0.0.0, culture-nuetral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest.

I have looked into ssms.exe.config and find many uses of publicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a.
One using Version=4.0.0.0 and none with Version=2.0.0.0.

I have had 2008, 2012, 2014 and 2016 installed but they no longer show in Start.

Upgraded from SQL Compact Edition to SQL Express 2014 but max file size of DB did not change

$

Client was using SQL Compact Edition 2008 R2 on a Windows 7 Pro box.

Their database hit the 4 GB size limit.

I researched options and found that the 2014 and 2017 SQL Express had a 10 GB size limit.

the 2014 version is considered a lighter version than the 2017 by everything that I read, so I elected to utilize it to upgrade my client's service.

I downloaded the 2014 Express and started the install. It gave me an option to a clean install or an upgrade.

The upgrade appeared to be the safest option so that is what I did. Everything seemed to install smoothly and the client could access the database afterwards with no issues.

However, the next day, they got the same error message again, stating that the primary filegroup is full.

the 2014 version is supposed to be a 10 GB max file size but something is still reading the Compact Edition size limit.

I am looking for any help or suggestions on how to fix this issue!!

The database machine has been rebooted and all new applicable Microsoft updates have been installed.

I was thinking about trying to uninstall the compact edition but I do not know what issues that might cause.

Anyone have any thoughts??

Thank you!
