Client was using SQL Compact Edition 2008 R2 on a Windows 7 Pro box.
Their database hit the 4 GB size limit.
I researched options and found that the 2014 and 2017 SQL Express had a 10 GB size limit.
the 2014 version is considered a lighter version than the 2017 by everything that I read, so I elected to utilize it to upgrade my client's service.
I downloaded the 2014 Express and started the install. It gave me an option to a clean install or an upgrade.
The upgrade appeared to be the safest option so that is what I did. Everything seemed to install smoothly and the client could access the database afterwards with no issues.
However, the next day, they got the same error message again, stating that the primary filegroup is full.
the 2014 version is supposed to be a 10 GB max file size but something is still reading the Compact Edition size limit.
I am looking for any help or suggestions on how to fix this issue!!
The database machine has been rebooted and all new applicable Microsoft updates have been installed.
I was thinking about trying to uninstall the compact edition but I do not know what issues that might cause.
Anyone have any thoughts??
Thank you!
