The MOF compiler could not connect with the WMI server

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Setup

------------------------------

The following error has occurred:

The MOF compiler could not connect with the WMI server. This is either because of a semantic error such as an incompatibility with the existing WMI repository or an actual error such as the failure of the WMI server to start.

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=20476&ProdName=Microsoft%20SQL%20Server&EvtSrc=setup.rll&EvtID=50000&ProdVer=12.0.2000.8&EvtType=0xA60E3551%25400xD3BEBD98%25401211%25401

Please do not ask me to go in to another link. I have spent over a week on this error. I had enough of it. I have been to hundreds of pages and unable to find a single solution. There is no point going in to another link; it is waste of time. It is vicious circle with no clear solution.

It is beggars believe this error has been dragged for over 10 years and yet Microsoft not only has not a fixed it, but does not know how to fix it. How is that difficult to put in all possible causes of errors with their solutions on a single page so that users do not browse 100s of pages with no apparent solution?

I have read all questions on this forum and others and none of them have answered how to solve this error, except to try another link.

This is my guess of the error I am getting from I have read on millions of blogs, forums and articles.

I need to uninstall a file from PC before I re-install SQL server. To do this, I need to use uninstall software as removing from control panel does not remove this file. I am unable to find a software which can clean the installation as this tool has been removed by Micro soft. So, I have left with no option but to completely forget SQL altogether unless someone on Microsoft comes up a with a solution, but please not ask me to go in to link as all these pages do not have a solution, but only linking to another page and then to another page.

I would like to use SQL server 2014, but it appears to me that I need to have a PHD on files, servers and errors.

SQL Server 2012 Express SP1 will not install on Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2

I have been attempting to install SQL Server 2012 with SP1 Express Edition for about a two weeks and have been unsuccessful.  My organization recently purchased a new Dell PowerEdge T320 Server (64 Bit) with Intel Xeon Proc.-E5-2420; 2.2Ghz, 32 Gb RAM, 1 Tb RAID 5 H/D, and Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials (preinstalled).  The server will be configured as an on premises server.  We are running a small church management application that requires SQL Server 2012 SP1 Express.  Per the direction of our application vendor, we downloaded the SQL Server 2012 SP1 Express file (SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe) from the Microsoft SQL Server Website.  We ran the file "As Administrator" and the SQL Server 2012 Setup program began.  We selected New SQL Server Stand-Alone Installation, successfully installed the needed Product Updates, and accepted the MS SQL Server 2013 Express License terms.  When the Feature Selection Page appeared we checked only the"Data Base Eng Services".  TheInstance Configuration Page was displayed and we inserted a "Named Instance= Shelby",then pressed next.  On theServer Configuration Page the only change was setting the"sql server browser = automatic".  The Database Engine Configuration Page appeared and we inserted the following settings:1] Server Configuration Tab; a) mixed mode, b)inserted SQL Server Admin pswd, c) added current user as administrator: 2] Data Directories Tab; default/no changes: 3] User Instanced Tab; default/no changes: and 4] Filestream Tab; default/no changes.  Next the Reporting Services Configuration Page came up and the reporting services native mode was set to"install and configure".  The Error Reporting Page appeared and was left as the"default".  The SQL Server 2012 Setup program proceeded to Installation Progress Page and started to install. Just before the install program ended it displayed a message saying that there were errors and the Database Eng Services did not succeed. I uninstalled SQL Server 2012 SP1 Express three (3) times, ran Windows Update after every uninstall, attempted to install the Database Engine and got the same results.  Are there any patches or special procedures for correctly installing SQL Server 2012 SP1 Express on my hardware configuration or Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2?  Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Cannot recreate deleted database

I've run into the following situation multiple times:

- prototype a data access layer module using Entity Framework/Code First and LocalDB

- the model changes often and I don't want to polute the module with many migrations; I want to have a clean model generated when I'm sure the model works the way we need; this is why I often delete the generated .MDF file

- After doing this for a few times (maybe 5), I can no longer create a database; the error message says

"System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException occurred
  _HResult=-2146232060
  _message=An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file {full path to MDF file here} failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
  HResult=-2146232060
  IsTransient=false
  Message=An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file {full path to mdf here} failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
  Source=.Net SqlClient Data Provider
  ErrorCode=-2146232060
  _doNotReconnect=false
  Class=14
  LineNumber=65536
  Number=15350
  Procedure=""
  Server=(LocalDb)\MSSQLLocalDB
  State=1

I've cleaned up the MSSqlLocalDb multiple times, rebooted the system a few times, deleted and recreated the MSSqlLocalDb instance, but the error remains the same.

What can I do to be able to recreate the databases at will?

SQL Server Management Studio File Open dialog is very slow to change directories

$

I am running Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio    10.0.2531.0 on Windows 7 Professional.

I have an intermittent problem with the File Open dialog. Sometimes it works reasonably well, but often it takes a very long time (a few minutes) to change directory. While it is doing whatever it is doing, the dialog and all of SSMS becomes unresponsive - I can't even cancel the dialog. It sometimes changes the cursor to an hourglass and sometimes not.

I do not have this problem with any other application.

I can open File Open one time and have this delay for every single directory change or if I open the Look In dropdown then, after closing it I can open it again and it will work with normal delays.

It is slow more often than it is normal.

It makes accessing files very impractical.

How can I check SQL Server logs for evidence of the database crashing?

$

I setup an instance of SQL Server 2014, installed on a Windows 7 VM, and I’ve been testing, with a 3rd party application, on this database for a few months. It seems like every 3-4 weeks SQL Server goes down and the 3rd party tool doesn’t work. I can check logs in the 3rd party tool, and it just says:

Error connecting to SQL database London using URL:

Then the IP address is listed.  That’s all I can see. From the 3rd party app, I can’t tell what’s going on.

Now, my question is how can I check logs on SQL Server to try to determine what’s happening here? I guess something on the VM is killing SQL Server, or for some reason or another, SQL Server is going down. Something bizarre is going on here, but I can’t figure out what.

Any ideas, anyone?

Knowledge is the only thing that I can give you, and still retain, and we are both better off for it.

DB Restore does not work on MSSMS 2014 under WIndows8.1

When attempting to restore a DB which was backed up on a different machine (same names but SQL EXPRESS 2012) under MS 2014 running on WIndows 8.1 into a SQL Express DB, the following happens:

1. Open Restore task

2. Select Device to get 'Select backup devices"

3. Invoke "Add" and expect to see a browser. Instead, a backup file location is indicated and no browsing is permitted in the "Locate Backup File" Even when the path and file names are just typed in, the Restore will not work.

Any help is appreciated.

Client access from W7 to Server 2008 with SQL Express 2008 R2 not possible anymore (since installing yesterdays patches)

$

Hi everyone!

We are suddenly having Problems to access our SQL Express Server from our Clients (SBS 2008 with W7 clients).
Till yesterday evening everything was working fine. At night we installed the latest MS patches für our Server 2008 (SBS2008).

Since then we are not able to connect to the SQL Express Server over the Network. Locally (on the Server) it runs fine.

Switching the Windows Firewall off on the Server also lets the clients connect ...

The Windows Firewall still has all the ports open needed for SQL Server, we havn't changed anything.
All the incoming rules that worked for years are still there (untouched).

We just deinstalled all the latest patches, but problem still is here ... not sure if this was just a coincidence ...

Any ideas what could be the Problem?

Thanks in advance for your help

Best regards

Thomas

The following connection string gives me an error message "Cannot open the database requested by the login".

The engine is SQL Express 2014.  What could be wrong?

Can a full file path be used to open a sql database connection?

I have a requirement to open an unattached sql server database file with a given path. Can this be done?

This would be similar to opening a Jet database using the path as the Data Source.  For example, the path might be "C:\MyFolder\MyDatabase.mdf".  I need to put the path in the connection string and open the database.  It would look something like the following.

Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=C:\MyFlolder\MyDatabase.mdf;Itegrated Security=SSPI;

Which SQL Server version to use with Visual Studio 2010 Premium

$

0

I have a Windows 8.1 development system with Visual Studio 2010 Premium installed.

I'm aware that this version of VS installed SQL Server 2008 and I want to upgrade the SQL install.

Previously, it had been suggested that I install SQL Server 2012 Express and I was thinking of installing SQLEXPR_x86, as this would support both 32-bit and 64-bit O/S.

However, I would like to know if the Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Express would work with my copy of Visual Studio 2010 Premium.

If so, I could download the Express with Advanced Services (SQLEXPRADV) and utilize the LocalDB (SqlLocalDB); because I need to bundle a SQL database with my distributed C# applications.

Please tell me if the 2014 SQL Server Express would integrate with my 2010 Visual Studio, or if I should still download the 2012 version of SQL Server Express.  Thank you.
