I need to make an  uninstall script for SQL Server 2012 Express but I can't figger it out.

After I uninstalled the SQL instance with following command:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2012\setup.exe /Action=Uninstall /FEATURES=SQL,AS /INSTANCENAME=SQLEXPRESS /QUIETSIMPLE

There are still a couple of programs that I want to remove:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Setup Support Files
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Transact-SQL ScriptDom
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Native Client
  • SQL Server Browser for SQL Server 2012
  • Microsoft VSS Writer for SQL Server 2012
  • Microsoft - SQL Server 2012 Express
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Setup (English)

Can someone please help me removing them without using 'Add or Remove Programs'and preferably without any interaction.

SQL Express 2012 SP2 Offline Install Available?

We have a customer where SQL Express 2012 SP2 is needed for an application (the application is not yet validated for SQL Express 2014).

The computer for this application is not connected to the internet (Win7x64).

Is there an install package for this?

How can I check SQL Server logs for evidence of the database crashing?

$

I setup an instance of SQL Server 2014, installed on a Windows 7 VM, and I’ve been testing, with a 3rd party application, on this database for a few months. It seems like every 3-4 weeks SQL Server goes down and the 3rd party tool doesn’t work. I can check logs in the 3rd party tool, and it just says:

Error connecting to SQL database London using URL:

Then the IP address is listed.  That’s all I can see. From the 3rd party app, I can’t tell what’s going on.

Now, my question is how can I check logs on SQL Server to try to determine what’s happening here? I guess something on the VM is killing SQL Server, or for some reason or another, SQL Server is going down. Something bizarre is going on here, but I can’t figure out what.

Any ideas, anyone?

Knowledge is the only thing that I can give you, and still retain, and we are both better off for it.

SQL Server Express 2008 and WOW64

Our software requires SQL Server Express 2008 to be installed on various computers.  We have run into a problem with systems that have WOW64.  When the SQL installer is going through it's check list, it marks the WOW64 as the reason that it cannot continue.  In other cases I get a notification that tells me that windows installer 4.5 or higher is required but when I try to install windows installer 4.5 it tells me that the it is not the correct verson of windows installer for the system.  I try a few different versions and get the same problem.  I am confused as to why one windows software would not work with another.

Any time i try to connect the database i get this error "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. Connection Problem on Windows 10

I have installed SQL Server Express 2012 on my Windows 10 test computer and copied a database to it. I have been unable to connect to the db. I added a rule to the firewall that opened port 1433 to all traffic. I am using the following code to test the connection. It works fine when I point to the original server but fails when pointing to the Win10 server, whether I use its IP address (192.168.1.140) or the address using NAT on my Linksys router.

Public Class Form1
    Dim strConn As String = "Data Source="
    Dim gMsg As String = ""
    Private Sub btnTestConnection_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnTestConnection.Click
        strConn += Trim(txtServer.Text) + ";Initial Catalog=HouseholdInventory;Persist Security Info=True;User ID="
        strConn += Trim(txtLoginName.Text) + ";Password=" + Trim(txtPassword.Text)
        Dim TestConn As New SqlClient.SqlConnection
        TestConn.ConnectionString = strConn
        Try
            TestConn.Open()
            btnTestConnection.Text = "Successful Connection"
            btnTestConnection.BackColor = Color.Green
        Catch ex As Exception
            gMsg = "The following error occurred trying to build the connection:" + vbCrLf + ex.Message
            If Not IsNothing(ex.InnerException) Then gMsg += vbCrLf + "Inner Exception:" + vbCrLf + ex.InnerException.Message
            gMsg += vbCrLf + "Connection String: " + vbCrLf + strConn
            MsgBox(gMsg)
            btnTestConnection.Text = "Connection Failed"
            btnTestConnection.BackColor = Color.Red

        End Try

    End Sub
End Class

I have two questions:

  1. How do I set up SQL and the firewall so I can connect from a remote computer? Setting it up like I did for Win 7 and SQL Server 2008 R2 did not work.
  2. What should a connection string look like if the connection goes through NAT with a specified port? I already redirect the default port 1433 to the computer with SQL Server 2008 R2 on it -- works fine. I need to leave that up and redirect a different port to port 1433 on the Win10 test computer. The problem is the connection string. This is important because I am writing an app that allows the user to input the server, user Id and password on the first use. It is possible they will want to do this.

Thanks for any suggestions.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.
For example:
<configuration><system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" /></configuration>
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.
And in Label it's shows:
"Serialization operation on
ServerGroup[@Name='DatabaseEngineServerGroup'] has failed.
Then I can Log-In into database, and do just half work.

I have installed: MS Framework 2.0, 3.5, 4.0. I am using MS Windows XP SP2.  It makes me crazy. Everything running okay but just this application have problems.

I have the SQL server 2014 version and I keep coming up with an error message 40. "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL server) ( Microsoft SQL server, Error: 2) The system cannot find the file specified."

The TCP for Express and SQLServer are also enabled. The Browser is Running but the Express is not. That also gives me an error message. I can not change my settings for Firewall, due to my job's security.

Can someone please!!!!! HELP ME!!

SQL Server 2012 Management Studio: Where Can I download AdventureWorks2012_Log.ldf?

$

Hi all,

From the Microsoft codeplex, I have downloaded the AdventureWorks2012_Data.mdf file and saved it in my C:\Temp folder.  I executed the following .sql code:

CREATE DATABASE AdventureWorks
  ON (FILENAME = 'C:\Temp\AdventureWorks2012_Data.mdf')
  For ATTACH;

GO

I got the following message:

File activation failure. The physical file name "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\AdventureWorks2012_Log.ldf" may be incorrect.
New log file 'C:\Temp\AdventureWorks2012_Data_log.ldf' was created.
Converting database 'AdventureWorks' from version 705 to the current version 706.
Database 'AdventureWorks' running the upgrade step from version 705 to version 706.

I think that I do not have the AdvendtureWorks2012_Log.ldf file in my C:\ drive that caused the problem in my trial to attach the AdventureWoks2012 to the Databases of SQLEXPRESS of my SQL Server 2012 Management Studio. Where can I download the AdventureWorks2012_Log.ldf file? Please kindly help, advise and respond.

Thanks in advance,

Scott Chang
